Getting to Know Jonathan

Jonathan

I grew up in Kincardine Ontario on the beaches of Lake Huron. I moved to Ottawa in 1999 to pursue my education at the prestigious Algonquin College. After a few years of school I graduated from Algonquin and moved onto my CMTO Board exams. After passing my hands-on exam, my life took a turn when I suffered a spinal cord injury that took me over a year to come back from. But what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! This certainly did. Once I felt comfortable enough I attempted my CMTO written exam and passed. My dream of being an RMT was on it’s way. The journey ahead was an unmarked trail.

In 2006 something amazing happen to me and my career. I met a client who changed my life and put me onto the path of a journey like no other. So skip ahead one year later and I was sitting in my tent on a foundation of rock looking up at the highest mountains in the world. This was the first RMT expedition to Mount Everest Base Camp. I worked with climbers and Sherpas testing O2 SAT (oxygen saturation) levels before and after treatments to see how massage therapy can influence O2 intake in a hypoxic environment. I also discovered how biomechanics alone in today’s society contribute to many of the common problems the average person deals with daily. I spent 40 days on the mountain. The experience changed me forever.

In 2006 I was asked to work with the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation as their Massage Captain for the Breast Cancer Walk. I learned so much from this opportunity and brought a little of myself to the event, creating a road massage crew that helped walkers along the way of the event. In 2009 I took the road crew concept across Canada, providing treatments for all walkers at various event locations. This event not only touched my soul in a positive way but it helped me further develop my skills, opening my mind and eyes to new ways of treating people in a more efficient way.

I have a passion for Coaching and Athletics. In college I played Volleyball and Rugby and still enjoy playing sports today. Obstacle course racing has been my latest passion and helping others prepare for their races. I also have a daily race that keeps me moving in all directions: Jack and Morgan, my beautiful children test my wife and I every minute of every day with new tasks and new discoveries. It is the best obstacle course race I have ever run and the best thing is that the race is never ending.

As for my Massage Therapy, I see you, the client, for who you are. I look at your imbalances within your body and not just the physical. I want to know what you do and how you do it. The way you walk through life leaves an imprint on your body and when treated correctly, can send you walking down the right path. I am not a relaxation Massage Therapist! TMJ dysfunction, Respiratory Massage, Postural Analysis and Treatment, Deep Tissue, and Sports Massage are my passions, but I will do my best to help any client with any conditions or situation. Did I also mention that I have developed my own style of fitness training that coincides with my massage therapy? “Stabilize Your Life” brings the power of core into the power of movement, helping to rid the body of imbalances to create a strong balanced life.
